Students often write excuse letters when they are unable to attend school due to any reason. The excuse can be real or a complete lie. However, since students are required to attach relevant documents as proof also, it might be difficult for them to fabricate a lie.
It is an excuse letter that a school student writes to the principal or the teacher of the school to let them know that she cannot attend school because of periods. The teacher in a school can also write this letter.
To write a letter that lets the reader understand your situation, follow the tips given below:
Describe your situation:
If you are not attending school due to periods, make sure that you can tell why it is happening. Not everyone takes leave from school due to periods. So, describe what makes you different from those who still show up when they have periods.
Ask for leave:
You might want to take 2 or 3 days off from school. Mention the number of days you don’t want to come to school.
Keep it simple:
You don’t need to complicate things or write long letters just because you want to take leave from school. Keep your letter simple because you can convey your message in simple words too.
Below are two sample excuse letters for your better understanding:
Sample letter 1:
Name of the school
Subject: absence excuse due to periods
I am Lisa, a student in grade 12, section B. I regret that I will not be able to come to school today and the next two days because of my periods.
Since every person is different, I may not be the same as other girls in class especially when it comes to periods. I experience heavy bleeding and too much pain in my lower abdomen. Due to this, I cannot step out of the house and socialize.
Please accept my excuse letter as I am not able to attend school today and for the next two days also. I assure you that this will not impact my studies as I am aware of how important it is for me to study and get good grades. I am a position-holder girl in my class, and I always make up for the loss in studies that I experience due to my absence from school.
I hope that you will understand my situation. Thank you so much for your support as you have always been so empathic and cooperative toward your staff.

Sample letter 2:
Name of the school
Subject: absence excuse due to menstruation
I am Miss Lisa, a teacher of mathematics in (mention the name of the school). It is my humble request to you to please accept my excuse as I cannot come to school today due to very painful periods.
I am aware of the fact that the teacher needs to show up on school days as a lot of students depend on her. However, if a teacher is not feeling well, she will not be able to deliver to her full potential. I usually put up with my periods every month and never go on leave. This time, I feel so weak and unwell that it is almost impossible for me to make it to school. Therefore, I am compelled to write this excuse letter.
I have talked to Miss. ABC on the phone about my absence and she has assured me that things will be managed smoothly. Furthermore, my schedule has been adjusted in such a way that I will deliver all my missing lectures in days to come.
It is my humble request to you to please accept my excuse and allow me to take a rest for a day without deducting my salary. I will be very much thankful to you for your act of empathy. I can be reached at [contact] at any time.
