One-Hour Late Permission Letter to Boss

A one-hour late permission letter to the boss is a letter that is written by an employee, in which he addresses his employer and seek permission for reaching the work one hour late than his usual timing.

Employees are expected to show professionalism, punctuality, and discipline. If they do not do so, employers often take disciplinary actions against them. Depending on the severity of the situation, the employees can even get fired, if they are not punctual. Therefore, it is always advisable to formally write and inform the employers about any issues that are causing delays in reaching office. In addition, if the employee has permission from his boss, he can conveniently come late for the informed period, without any consequences. However, the employee should be able to justify his reason in front of the employer, and the latter should be convinced that the problem is not an excuse.

Writing a letter would be a proper and formal way of communicating the issue to the boss. Therefore, the letter should be written with due attention and information. The general details included in such letters are:

  • Date.
  • Details of the employee.
  • Details of the employer.
  • The problem or reason for unpunctuality (the one-hour delay and its duration should be stated).
  • Request for permission.
  • Ensure quality work and no delays in work.
  • Salutations and signature.

Some employees often offer to stay an extra hour after work to compensate for their late coming. In this situation, usually, the employer easily accepts their request. However, other employees may not be able to manage the additional hour after work, and hence the employer may or may not grant them permission.

Dear Mr. Smith,

This letter is intended to seek your permission for coming one-hour late to the office.

My wife suffered from a heart stroke two weeks before. Although she has recovered to a great extent her lower limbs have gotten affected, for which the doctors have suggested physiotherapy. I have checked with various physiotherapists in my vicinity, but none is available in the evening when I arrive home. Therefore, I must take my wife to the hospital in the morning, every day for two months, for the physiotherapy sessions before coming to work. As the session will last around 25 minutes, I will be able to reach the office at 10:00 a.m., instead of 9:00 a.m. On an everyday basis, I will cover the work missed during this one hour and would not let any projects get delayed.

Kindly, bear these two months with me, as I do not have any other option. I hope you will understand my situation and would grant me permission to come late to work for this time period. Thank you in advance.

I am attaching her medical documents with this letter. Kindly, let me know if you need any other information.

Regards,

Jim White.
