Certificates for Work Completion

What is a work completion certificate?

Every job or project begins with the hiring or contracting of some service. Just as at the beginning of a project, a contract is signed to formally initiate work; a work completion certificate is issued at the end of a project or contract and marks the official completion of the work.

A work completion certificate legally indicates the conclusion of a contract and once this is issued, the contracted party cannot be held liable to do any other work related to the project.

Work completion certificates state that a particular job was completed on a particular date and that the work complied with the agreed-upon terms and quality of work. This certificate is issued by the party who hired an employee, team or firm.

The certificates are commonly used in workplaces to officially end a contract. It is a legal document and receiving the certificate usually means that the receiver is no more liable to the contracting party in terms of additional work or any problem that may arise after the issuance of this certificate.

Thus, this certificate must be issued after critical evaluation of the contracted work and its quality. The human resource team or supervisor in charge of this certificate bears the responsibility of matching completed tasks to tasks agreed upon in the initial contract. This certificate may be issued in the following situations:

  • A part-time service provider hired to carry out a task. For example, an agent hired to manage customer calls for a few particular time periods.

Certificate formats in different regions:

Work completion certificate formats may vary from region to region. There is no fixed format. For example, in Europe, the logos of the sponsors or certificate awarding organizations are placed at the top of the certificates. In contrast, the logos of sponsors or certificate awarding organizations are placed at the bottom of the work completion certificate. However, there is certainly no law regarding the format and certificates can be designed to suit a company’s own style.

How to create the certificate?

Work completion certificates can be created in different software such as Adobe, MS Word, MS Publisher and many other programs available online. Basic completion certificates can be created easily by a layman. If you are looking for something extraordinary, you may hire a graphics designer or adobe expert to design a certificate for you.

The certificates may be saved in MS Word, PDF, JPG, or JPEG formats. The most commonly used format is MS Word as it allows the certificate to be edited and used multiple times. Thus the format remains the same, and by simply changing the name of the contractor the certificate can be used again and again for different projects.

The organization issuing a certificate of completion usually puts a copy of the certificate in the project file. The certificate of completion is more useful for the contractor who completed the work.

The most important use is that the certificate relieves the party of its obligations and marks the end of their responsibilities. Moreover, these certificates are also used for promotion as they are proof of the successful completion of projects.

Thus many organizations or consultants frame and hang these certificates in their office. We are creating some work completion certificate templates that are available for free downloads here.
