Construction Cost Estimator FAQs

Helpful answers about estimates, calculations, printing, compatibility, and privacy.

What is the Construction Cost Estimator?
It is a browser-based tool for preparing itemized construction cost estimates with quantities, unit rates, waste allowances, overhead, profit, tax, notes, and approval details.
Who can use this estimator?
Contractors, builders, quantity surveyors, estimators, project managers, engineers, architects, property owners, and students can use it for preliminary or detailed project costing.
What information does the tool accept?
It accepts project and client details, estimate dates, line-item descriptions, categories, units, quantities, unit costs, waste percentages, work status, overhead, profit, tax, notes, and signatory names.
How are construction costs calculated?
Each line amount equals quantity multiplied by unit cost, adjusted by the waste allowance. The tool then adds overhead and profit, followed by tax where entered, to calculate the final estimated total.
How does multipage printing work?
The estimator divides complete rows across separate A4 preview sheets, repeats table headings on continuation pages, keeps numbering continuous, and prints only the generated document pages through an isolated print frame.
Does it work on mobile devices?
Yes. Mobile users can switch between Input and Live Preview tabs. The same A4 document is scaled to fit, remains centered, and supports Zoom−, Zoom+, Fit, and Print controls.
Is my estimate data uploaded or stored?
No. The supplied version processes data locally in the browser. It does not send estimates to an external service and does not use browser storage.
Does the estimator require external libraries?
No. It uses self-contained HTML, fully scoped CSS, and modern Vanilla JavaScript. It does not require jQuery, frameworks, external fonts, or third-party image libraries.
